AMCORE Hosts First In-Person Meeting at UG to Advance Health Research in Africa

ARUA-Guild Multimorbidity Cluster of Research Excellence (AMCoRE) project partners convened for a three-day meeting to review progress, strengthen collaboration, and outline next steps for advancing research and training on the escalating burden of multimorbidity. The gathering brought together AMCORE representatives from the University of Warwick, UK, and their counterparts from the University of Ghana (UG) as part of AMCORE’s engagement strategy to foster deeper research partnerships. The meeting was held at UG, from March 3 to 5, 2025.
Strategic Meetings at Legon Campus, UG
At the Legon campus, the AMCORE team held high-level discussions with the University’s Pro Vice-Chancellors for Academic and Student Affairs, and Research, Innovation and Development — Professors Gordon Awandare and Felix Ankomah Asante, respectively. They also engaged with Professor David Dodoo-Arhin, Director of the Research, Innovation and Development Directorate (RID). These meetings focused on AMCORE’s mission, key achievements, ongoing challenges, and the University of Ghana’s strategic role in sustaining the partnership.

Collaborative Meetings at the College of Health Sciences, Korle Bu Campus
The delegation also visited the Korle Bu campus of the College of Health Sciences (CHS), where they met with the Provost and senior faculty members. Discussions explored shared priorities including faculty and staff exchanges, postgraduate supervision, research collaboration, and joint funding applications.

Strengthening Global Academic Partnerships
The maiden in-person meeting at UG marked a significant milestone for AMCORE, reaffirming the commitment of both AMCORE partner institutions to advancing impactful international collaboration in research, capacity building, and health.
