AMCoRE Represented at Second Africa–Europe CoRE Conference, University of Glasgow, 14–17 June 2026

The Second Africa–Europe Cluster of Research Excellence (CoRE) Conference was held from 14–17 June 2026, bringing together Vice-Chancellors, senior university leaders, researchers, and partners from across Africa and Europe to strengthen research collaboration and advance the CoRE partnership.

The Africa–Europe Cluster of Research Excellence for Multimorbidity (AMCoRE) was represented by its co-leads, Prof. Tivani Mashamba-Thompson of the University of Pretoria and Prof. Paramjit Gill of the University of Warwick. The co-leads joined Vice-Chancellors and senior academic leaders from participating institutions during the conference, contributing to discussions on strengthening Africa–Europe research partnerships and advancing collaborative research excellence.

The conference provided an important platform for AMCoRE to engage with the wider CoRE community and highlight its research focus on multimorbidity, integrated healthcare, health systems, diagnostics, and equitable access to healthcare.

AMCoRE brings together researchers from African and European institutions to address the growing burden of multimorbidity, particularly in low- and middle-income settings. Through interdisciplinary research, capacity strengthening, and cross-continental collaboration, the cluster seeks to generate evidence that can contribute to more integrated and responsive health systems.

The participation of the AMCoRE co-leads strengthened the cluster's engagement with the wider Africa–Europe CoRE network and provided opportunities for knowledge exchange, networking, and the development of future collaborative research and capacity-building initiatives.

The conference highlighted the importance of sustained Africa–Europe research partnerships in advancing research excellence and addressing shared health and development priorities.
