Akpalu, Josephine (MBChB, FGCPS, FWACP, PGDip)

Dr. Akpalu is a consultant physician, endocrinologist and diabetologist at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital and head, Department of Medicine and Therapeutics, University of Ghana Medical School. Her research interests primarily revolve around non-communicable diseases (NCD), with a specific focus on diabetes, endocrine, and cardiometabolic disorders. In addition to her clinical services, Dr. Akpalu plays an important role in medical education, teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. She actively contributes to the training of newly qualified doctors during their internship. 

Dr. Akpalu obtained her medical degree from the University of Ghana Medical School and a postgraduate diploma in endocrinology and diabetes from the University of London - Queen Mary and Westfield College, UK. She is a Fellow of the West African College of Physicians and the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons. Her commitment to medical ethics is demonstrated through her membership in the Ethics and Protocol Review Committee of the College of Health Sciences, University of Ghana. Dr. Akpalu also serves as a member of the editorial board for the Health Sciences Investigational Journal. 

Dr. Akpalu has received prestigious international fellowships from the American College of Physicians and the Commonwealth Medical Fellowship for advanced training in endocrinology. She is the president of the Diabetes, Endocrine and Metabolic Society of Ghana. She is also a member of the Ghana Medical Association, Ghana Society of Internal Medicine, American College of Physicians, American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists, Society for Endocrinology (UK)
