Dr Kwaku Asah-Opoku is a consultant Obstetrician Gynaecologist at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital with subspecialty practice in Reproductive Health and Family Planning. He is the current head of the Reproductive Health and Family Planning Unit of the hospital. He is a senior lecturer at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology of the University of Ghana Medical School (UGMS), where he is also the coordinator of clinical programmes and program manager of the Clinical phase (Phase 2) of the Graduate Entry Medical Program in the School. He serves as the Chairperson for the Better Evidence for Training Using UpToDate. His interest areas of research are in Caesarean sections in lower middle-income countries, screening for premalignant lesions of the cervix, family planning and reproductive health.
He has been very active in the training of medical students and resident doctors in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at both the membership and Fellowship Level. He has vast experience in Reproductive Health and Family Planning and has served on several national committees and expert panels.
Dr Asah-Opoku obtained his medical degree from the University of Ghana Medical School, holds a Fellowship in Obstetrics and Gynaecology of the West African College of Surgeons (FWACS), Fellowship of the Ghana College of Surgeons (FGCS) and a master’s degree in public Health (School of Public Health, University of Ghana). He is a member of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA), Society of Obstetrician Gynaecologists of Ghana (SOGOG), University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG), African Peri-Operative Research Group (APORG) and Ghana Chapter of the International Papilloma Virus Society (IPVS).
