Dr. Antoinette Afua Asiedua Bediako-Bowan is a consultant General and Colorectal Surgeon at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH). She is presently the head of the Colorectal Unit at the KBTH. She provides specialized surgical services, primarily focusing on colorectal diseases. Her research interests revolve around colorectal diseases, particularly colorectal cancers. She also has an interest in infection control practices and antibiotic use in surgical practice, specifically focusing on reducing hospital-acquired infections, including surgical site infections and antimicrobial resistance.
Dr. Bediako-Bowan plays a crucial role in training surgeons, contributing to the programs of both the West African College and the Ghana College of Surgeons. She is also actively involved in the fellowship training of colorectal surgeons with the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons. As a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Surgery at the University of Ghana Medical School, Dr. Bediako-Bowan is dedicated to training the next generation of medical professionals.
She serves as a member of the Scientific and Technical Committee of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital Institutional Review Board and as a member of the editorial board for the Health Sciences Investigational Journal.
She obtained her medical degree from the University of Ghana Medical School (UGMS). She is a Fellow of the West Africa College of Surgeons and the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons. She also obtained a Ph.D. in Immunology and Infectious Diseases from the University of Copenhagen, Denmark. Dr. Bediako-Bowan is a member of the Ghana Medical Association.
