Dr. Aba Ankomaba Folson is a senior specialist physician, consultant cardiologist, and senior lecturer at the Ho Teaching Hospital and Department of Internal Medicine, University of Health and Allied Sciences.
Dr. Folson brings extensive expertise in coronary intervention and a diverse skill set in non-invasive cardiology. Her research pursuits focus on the epidemiology of cardiovascular disease and advancing patient-centered heart failure care in Africa. Dr. Folson is deeply committed to promoting quality patient care, fostering the training of healthcare professionals, and contributing to the generation of scientific health information in Africa through collaborative research. Additionally, she serves as the Treasurer of the Ghanaian Society of Cardiology, contributing to the advancement of cardiovascular care and research in the region.
As the first female cardiologist trained in Ghana, Dr. Folson has played a leading role in establishing and operationalizing non-invasive cardiovascular laboratories at the Department of Medicine, Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, and the Greater Accra Regional Hospital (GARH), Accra, Ghana. Dr. Folson served also as a training coordinator at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital (GARH), mentoring and facilitating the training of the first two specialists for the West African College of Physicians (WACP) and the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons (GCPS).
Dr Folson obtained her medical degree from the University of Ghana Medical School. She is a Fellow of the West African College of Physicians and Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons. She also holds a Master of Science (MSc) degree from Cardiff, South Wales, UK and a postgraduate certificate in interventional cardiology, from Guangzhou, China.
